Microsoft today published a bizarre commercial featuring Microsoft Interns singing and dancing all around the Microsoft campus. Titled “Microsoft the Musical”, the musical talks about the history of the company. Microsoft Interns managed to put Microsoft’s biggest successes and failures into the video.

The video starts with interns introducing Bill Gates and then penning the ‘Idea of Gates’ which is essentially motivating people to continue working on their ideas. The whole video is aimed at dreamers and people who are working on different ideas to improve the world.

Moving on the video talks a bit about Windows and how it paid for everything else that Microsoft has built since then. They even talked about the failure of Windows Vista and even when on to take a jab at Windows Phone.

It’s all happening here. The standard for your office and your home. All happening here. All around the world our products are well-known. Except for when we tried to make a phone.

After talking about Windows and Windows Phone, they went ahead and talked about Surface and how Microsoft was missing a laptop.

One thing we were missing was a laptop that was nice. So we redesigned an industry—and then we did it twice! We titled it the “Surface”—both descriptive and concise. Why buy two devices when a Surface would suffice

Next up, they talked a bit about HoloLens, Xbox and how it’s empowering every gamer. Moreover, they also managed to take a shot at the Seattle weather saying there’s so much cloud computing that it’s always raining.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. We hope that this speaks to every person who dreams of being part of something big — and especially to those who’ve been wrongly told they can’t be. At some point, we were all in your shoes. You CAN, you SHOULD, and you WILL.

– McGregor (director’s note)

The video in total is 8 minutes long with two minutes of credits. The whole video involved over 150 interns and was recorded and worked over a period of 8 weeks before it was published. We are not sure if it was approved directly by Microsoft as the video was not published on Microsoft’s own YouTube channel. However, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a musical about Microsoft by Microsoft Interns.
