Microsoft teases major Office for Mac update that’ll put users in the fast lane

Microsoft is teasing a significant new update for the Office apps on Mac. The company informed users about the major new update on Friday. According to Microsoft engineer Derek Snook, the new Office for Mac update will come with some major architectural changes which will enable faster feature releases.

The improved underlying structure of Office for Mac will allow Microsoft engineers to add new features more quickly, which is good news for the users as Microsoft doesn’t usually add a lot of new features to Office on the Mac. Just to give users a taste of what’s to come in the future, Microsoft will allow them to preview some new features with the latest update as well:

“In the next few days, we plan to release a significant update to Insiders enrolled in the Fast level. You’ll have a chance to preview a bunch of new features. In addition to the new features, we’ve made a number of foundational changes to the product architecture. These underlying improvements will ultimately enable us release new features for Office for Mac more quickly. In the short term, you may hit a few more issues than normal. We hope you’ll stick with us if things are a little bumpy at the start.”

The architectural changes will also mean Office Insiders could possibly encounter more issues than usual. The update will get released sometime next week, and we’ll let you know once Microsoft releases the update as per usual.
