Microsoft today released updates for Windows 10 Version 1703, Windows 10 Version 1511 and Windows 10 Version 1607. For Windows 10 Version 1511 and 1607, this update fixes the issue where apps based on the Microsoft’s JET db engine fails when trying to create an Excel files. For Windows 10 Version 1703, this issue fixes the bug which caused some Microsoft Surface Laptops boot to a black screen.

Windows 10 Version 1511: KB4052232 (OS Build 10586.1177):

This update includes quality improvements. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. Key changes include:

  • Addressed issue where applications based on the Microsoft JET Database Engine (Microsoft Access 2007 and older or non-Microsoft applications) fail when creating or opening Microsoft Excel .xls files. The error message is, “Unexpected error from external database driver (1). (Microsoft JET Database Engine)”.

Windows 10 Version 1607 and Windows Server 2016: KB4052231 (OS Build 14393.1797):

This update includes quality improvements. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. Key changes include:

  • Addressed issue where applications based on the Microsoft JET Database Engine (Microsoft Access 2007 and older or non-Microsoft applications) fail when creating or opening Microsoft Excel .xls files. The error message is, “Unexpected error from external database driver (1). (Microsoft JET Database Engine)”.

Windows 10 Version 1703: KB4049370 (OS Build 15063.675):

This release is intended for Microsoft Surface Laptop audiences only. This update includes quality improvements. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. Key changes include:

  • Addressed issue where after installing KB4038788, some Microsoft Surface Laptops boot to a black screen. Additionally, you must press the power button for a long time to recover.
