Microsoft has announced the purchased Press Play, the Copenhagen-based independent developer behind Max & the Magic Marker.

The company has worked on platforms as diverse as WiiWare, PlayStation Network, Nintendo DS, iOS, PC, and Windows Phone 7.

Press Play employs eight workers and has two games in the Windows Phone Marketplace- the aforementioned Max and the Magic Marker and Tentacles.  They currently have a tank game for Windows Phone and Windows 8 in the works.

The team expects Microsoft’s resources will allow them even more creative freedom and welcomed the deal.

Microsoft revealed the  acquisition during a pre-E3 discussion on Spike TV, though terms for the deal were not disclosed.
