A digital-only future is a dream for some gamers who hate the apparent hassle of placing a disc in their system, and it would appear Microsoft is aware of this.

According to Thurott.com, Microsoft will be releasing an Xbox One console that doesn’t feature a disc tray. Instead, the console will be limited purely to digital content – movies, games, music and more will purely be digital.

The report states that the disc-less console will cost less than $200 on launch. It will also allegedly launch alongside an all-new disc to digital program that will allow users to trade-in their physical discs for download codes at select retailers.

Alongside this new disc-less variant, Microsoft will also be bringing out a revised Xbox One S console that will still have a disc drive.

The removal of a disc tray isn’t something I’m personally excited for as a fan of physical media. Then again, it isn’t like discs will completely disappear this generation anyways. It isn’t great, though, as it takes away a lot of options, and I can’t imagine it saves that much money in the long run.

What do you think? Is it worth the lower price to be limited to digital only content? Will you be slightly¬†annoyed when you can’t simply pop in a DVD or Blu-Ray to watch? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
