Microsoft is rolling out a new update for Edge Canary which bumps the web browser to v79.0.284.0. The update also brings a couple of UI changes to the web browser.

About a month ago, Microsoft added Global Media Control to Edge Canary. The feature makes it easy to control the media playback. It also allows users to have media controls on-screen without pressing media keys like volume or playback keys. This should come in handy for users who like to listen to music or watch videos while they work. With the latest update, Microsoft is making a couple of UI changes to the web browser. The first change is the icon which now looks a lot like a media icon rather than the play button Microsoft had before.

Apart from that, the media controls will be expanded by default when playing YouTube videos. Microsoft made this change to make sure all the media controls are visible and they don’t blend-in into the artwork.

Both the new changes are available in the latest version of Edge Canary. If you don’t see Global Media Controls then make sure to enable it from the Edge Flags.
