It should soon become easier to manage media playing from the numerous tabs in a modern browser.

You may have Spotify playing in one tab, YouTube in another and Vimeo in a 3rd. Now with Global Media Controls, available in Edge Canary, you can simply press the Play button which shows up in the toolbar, which will pop up controls for all the media, wherever they are playing.

The feature had earlier become available in Chrome Canary, and is now available by default in Edge Canary (version 78.0.249.0).

If you hate the feature, you can disable it by toggling the Media Session Service flag in Edge://flags.

At present not all Edge users appear to be receiving the feature and it may be part off Microsoft’s Controls Feature Roll-out testing procedure.
