Microsoft Files Its Support For Oracle Against Google In Java API Court Case

targetgoogleFew days back, Microsoft along with EMC and NetApp has filed a petition in support for Oracle to US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Oracle lost the case against Google involving usage of Java APIs with out any licensing agreements.

Microsoft’s main arguments are as follows,

  • PLATFORM WAS NOT COPYRIGHTABLE AT ALL WAS FLAWED AS A MATTER OF COPYRIGHT LAW AND POLICY, AND WOULD DESTABILIZE THE SOFTWARE INDUSTRY
  • COPYRIGHT LAW ACCOUNTS FOR THE FREEDOM TO INNOVATE WITH FOLLOW ON CREATIONS THROUGH DOCTRINES THAT ARE MORE EFFECTIVE AND OR NOTHING APPROACH TO THE COPYRIGHTABILITY OF SOFTWARE PLATFORMS
Microsoft is concerned that this ruling will affect other software related copyrights cases in the future and has now shown its support.
