Windows 11 OneDrive

A new Windows 11 beta build has now arrived. With that, Microsoft is making it easier for you to resume your work on OneDrive files from your iOS or Android phones.

So now, if you access a Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, or PDF file on your phone while your PC is locked, they will receive a notification to continue editing upon unlocking your PC within five minutes.

The file will then be opened in the default browser, provided the same Microsoft account is used on both devices. This feature is exclusive to personal Microsoft accounts, requires OneDrive login in the browser, and can be managed in Settings > Apps > Resume.

“Work and school accounts are not supported,” says Microsoft in the documentation.

The feature was first tested some months ago on the KB5046756 update for Windows 11’s Beta channel for Windows Insiders back in November 2024. Then, it arrived earlier this year with the KB5050092 mandatory update for Windows 11’s 22H2 and 23H2 versions.

Still from the same update, Microsoft is also bringing the first-ever public preview of Windows MIDI Services, offering full support for MIDI 2.0 and modernizing MIDI 1.0, just decades away after MIDI became the industry’s standard.

File Explorer also now restores open tabs at logon and auto-applies the restartable apps setting. A new option lets users snooze or turn off the โ€œStart backupโ€ reminder. In Settings, a new homepage for commercial customers displays enterprise-specific cards, including device info, accessibility preferences, and Microsoft account integration.
