In a presentation on the new Windows Store, which will combine apps from Windows Phone, Windows, Xbox and iOS and Android, Microsoft revealed that it currently has 640,000 apps, with 9.7 billion downloads and 744, 000 registered developers.
To help boost things further Microsoft also revealed a new affiliate program, which will help promoters earn a 7% commission on apps, games, music and videos and even the sale of physical goods via the Windows Store.
Microsoft also revealed besides in-app purchases Microsoft will soon support subscriptions in the Windows Store, and would create a Windows Store for business, which would enable volume licenses.
Microsoft notes:
The Microsoft Affiliate Program provides a way to link to products and earn a generous commission on each sale. Signing up to be an affiliate is quick, easy, and free. Plus, you get access to tools and resources. Apply now and we’ll review your application within five business days.
Content aggregators can sign up for the program here.
The news should mean many more websites will be promoting Windows apps, which is one way to turn the tide of scepticism towards the platform and convince members of the public to make use of the store. Genius move , Microsoft.
