Microsoft’s Copilot for Security has exited early access and is now available for purchase. Announced last year at Microsoft Secure, Copilot for Security helps security and IT teams respond to threats faster with the aid of AI.
Microsoft Copilot for Security is now generally available for purchase as of April 1, 2024. The service is priced based on consumption, measured in Security Compute Units (SCUs), allowing customers to pay for what they use. To use Copilot for Security, an Azure subscription is required. Basic Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence (MDTI) features are included at no extra cost. However, to leverage advanced MDTI functionalities, purchasing a separate MDTI API license is required.
What is Copilot for Security?
In March 2023, Copilot for Security was announced as an AI-powered assistant to help security professionals. Its functionalities include generating summaries of security incidents, assisting in incident response, and reverse engineering malware scripts to identify vulnerabilities.
“Microsoft Copilot for Security is a force multiplier for the entire Microsoft Security portfolio, which integrates more than 50 categories within six product families to form one end-to-end Microsoft Security solution. By implementing Copilot for Security, you can protect your environment from every angle, across Security, compliance, identity, device management, and privacy,”
Vasu Jakkal, Corporate Vice President, Security, Compliance, Identity, and Management at Microsoft.
To get started with Copilot for Security, users will need an Azure subscription and can provision capacity through the Copilot for Security portal or Azure portal. A minimum of 3 SCUs per hour is recommended to start.
SCU stands for Security Compute Unit. It’s a unit used by Microsoft to measure the amount of computing power needed to run Copilot for Security workloads.
