It is no secret that Microsoft loves inking. Since the launch of the original Surface Pro, the company has been pushing inking quite a lot. In fact, inking has been one of the main focuses for most of the recent Windows 10 updates, including the recently released Windows 10 Creators Update. Microsoft wants to take inking a step further in Windows 10, however.

Today, the company showed off a new Microsoft Whiteboard app that will bring real-time collaboration for inking in Windows 10. As the name of the app implies, users will be able to work on a whiteboard in real-time — where they can ink using different pens and colors, and it will show up for all the other users working on the whiteboard almost instantly. The app also features smart object detection, which means whenever you draw a circle or a triangle with your Surface Pen on the Whiteboard app, it will automatically smooth out the object.

Redmond is currently testing the new Whiteboard in a private preview on the Surface Hub, but it will be available for other types of Windows 10 devices later this year. The app will feature “exclusive” capabilities for Office 365 subscribers, but it isn’t clear whether the basic features of the app will be available to all users as of yet.
