Microsoft announces new gamertag features coming to Xbox One and mobile devices

Back at E3 2019, Microsoft announced improvements to gamertag system including the ability to customize gamertags with a new display option and 13 additional alphabets supporting 200 languages. This improvement was available only from PCs. Today, Microsoft announced the expansion of gamertag improvements to Xbox consoles and mobile devices. Microsoft is rolling out this feature as part of November 2019 Xbox Update. It is important to note that existing Xbox players can keep their current gamertags without any change.

The following character sets are now supported in Xbox gamertags:

  • Basic English
  • Basic Latin
  • Latin-1 Supplement
  • Latin Extended-A
  • Hangul
  • Katakana
  • Hiragana
  • CJK Symbols (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
  • Bengali
  • Devanagari (Hindi)
  • Cyrillic
  • Greek
  • Thai

If you want to change your gamertag using these new characters, you can change it for free only once, following changes will cost approximately $9.99.
