Microsoft and Motorola have been fighting over patents for years now. Motorola was later acquired by Google and then Google continued the fight against Microsoft in the courts. Today, Microsoft and Google have agreed to end their patent issues over smartphones and video game systems. Both these companies are dropping about 20 lawsuits in the U.S. and Germany. Also, Microsoft and Google have decided to work together in other ways related to intellectual property, including development of a royalty-free, video-compression technology to speed downloads, lobby for specific rules on a unified patent system throughout Europe and more.
“Google and Microsoft have agreed to collaborate on certain patent matters and anticipate working together in other areas in the future to benefit our customers.”
