  • Bosch and Microsoft are collaborating to explore generative AI for self-driving cars.
  • Generative AI can potentially improve the safety and perception of self-driving cars.
  • Bosch believes generative AI is a major innovation in the automotive industry.

Bosch and Microsoft announced a collaboration to explore the use of generative AI in enhancing vehicle safety and functionality. Generative AI is artificial intelligence that can create new data, like images or text. In the context of self-driving cars, this technology could improve perception and reaction to dynamic road situations.

Bosch anticipates generative AI’s potential to significantly impact the automotive industry. They expressed their intent to introduce “a new dimension of AI applications in vehicles” through a press release. Microsoft shares this optimistic view, stating that generative AI holds the potential to be “as transformative for the automotive industry as the invention of the computer.”

This partnership between Microsoft and Bosch can benefit the public in three ways: enhanced road safety, improved driving experience, and faster development of self-driving cars.

This comes after Apple gave up on their car project after spending $10B on it.

“Generative AI is a boost to innovation. It can transform industry in much the same way as the invention of the computer.”

says Dr. Tanja Rueckert, member of the Bosch board of management and chief digital officer.

A recent survey conducted by Bosch revealed that a majority of respondents (72%) believe AI will contribute to increased road safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

This collaboration between Bosch and Microsoft represents a noteworthy step in the advancement of self-driving car technology. Generative AI has the potential to enhance the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles, potentially accelerating their development and wider adoption.
