Microsoft: 10,000 users were targeted by state-sponsored hackers last year

Microsoft yesterday revealed that over 10,000 customers were targeted or compromised by nation-state attacks last year alone. Microsoft notified these users to protect their accounts. About 84% of these attacks were targeted towards enterprise customers while the rest of them were targeted towards personal email accounts

While many of these attacks are unrelated to the democratic process, this data demonstrates the significant extent to which nation-states continue to rely on cyberattacks as a tool to gain intelligence, influence geopolitics or achieve other objectives.

Majority of the attacks came from three countries: Iran (Holmium and Mercury), North Korea (Thallium) and Russia (Yttrium and Strontium). Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center works 24X7 through direct legal action or in collaboration with law enforcement to protect user accounts from such bad actors. You can learn more about cyberthreats from the source link below.
