Metal Gear Solid Delta, launching on Xbox this year, looks impressive on PS5

It’s been a hot back-and-forth with Konami when it comes to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta. The remake of the 2004 classic is built on Unreal Engine 5 and coming to PS5, Xbox Series, and PCs, and now, we’re getting a hands-on report on what it looks like on Sony’s console.

Sony has invited creators and publishers to try out Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and reviews are saying that it’s been a solid, true-to-the-original experience.

We’re getting revamped visuals and improved controls that blend nostalgic elements with modern gameplay prowess that preserves the original’s charm. You can also feel the frequent load screens and rigid level transitions, to preserve the OG’s limitations.

“We had to sift out some old dev documents, but thanks to the expertise of some of the veterans who worked on Snake Eater we didn’t have to spend too much time figuring out preparation,” says MGS Delta’s producer, Noriaki Okamura.

It’s been a hot while since the original game arrived, so Konami promises that it’s executing the remake in a way that appeals to both longtime fans and newcomers. So far, the preview shows a highly cinematic experience with improved graphics and modern controls, while retaining the original’s quirky features and a bunch of Easter eggs and calls.

Will it be the same on Xbox? We’ll see. Konami has not revealed the exact release date for Metal Solid Gear Delta: Snake Eater, but it’s been scheduled for a 2024 release date on PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
