When Microsoft announced that they will be giving away Windows OS for free to OEMs developing devices with less than 9-inches, we realized that they are serious about getting tablet market share. Microsoft aimed to decrease the Windows tablet price by removing the Windows licensing for OEMs. At COMPUTEX, a Chinese OEM called Emdoor has announced EM-i8080 Windows tablet. This Emdoor EM-i8080 will cost just $100! Yes, $100 for a full Windows tablet. Here is the spec of the device,

  • 1280 x 800 IPS technology
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB SSD
  • Intel’s 1.33GHz – 1.8GHz Bay Trail SoC(Intel Atom Z3735G)
  •  A microSD slot, Micro USB and Mini HDMI
  • Stereo speakers,
  • Camera
  • 18.5Wh battery
  • Weight – 355 gms.

Great start from Intel and Microsoft to bring down the costs of Windows tablets. Hopefully, more OEMS will join the race.
