Long Zheng reports that the voice turn by turn directions in Windows Phone Mango will require a tap at each turn.
This is apparently due to Bing Map data licensing restrictions, presumably inherited from Nokia’s Navteq, who provides the data.
Restrictions on your use: We do have some restrictions on your use of the service. You may not:
– present or alert an end user to individual maneuvers of a route in any way that is synchronized with the end-user’s sensor-based position along the route, (e.g. “real-time†navigation);
Personally this is not exactly my definition of turn by turn directions, and is hopefully something what will change when Nokia’s navigation apps come aboard. Fortunately there are a number of cheap navigation apps which provide even better features, but hopefully Microsoft can sort this eventually.
