My twitter feed has been full of articles about the new Windows Phone unlock tool by veteran phone hacker Heathcliff74 from XDA-Developers, which allows users to fully unlock the bootloader of a Windows Phone or Windows 10 Mobile device with only a few clicks. This allows a wide range of capabilities, including some as basic as backing up and restoring your phone, or as complex as installing a custom ROM, possibly running a completely different OS.

Heathcliff74 has produced a very useful and informative video demonstrating the process in full, which can be seen below.

I suspect however few of you will bother, as 5 hours after Heathcliff74 announced it the video has only had around 250 views ie around 50 an hour.

Heathcliff74 says he is delivering the tool because he has already invested a lot of time in it, and he gets daily calls for it to be updated. I obviously respect his dedication, hard work and skill, and the application is a massive contribution for those who want to continue hacking and possible repurposing an old Windows Phone.  The fact is however that even enthusiasts have abandoned the platform, which is why less than 15% of our mobile traffic comes from Windows Phones. Heathcliff may be better off using his talents where an actual audience remains.

Heathcliff74 will be releasing the application in short order, and you can see it demonstrated below.

If you still care, let us know in the comments below and read more about the applicationat his site here.
