Samsung and Huawei set benchmarks this year for foldable phones which is something other OEMs still need to chase. As we have seen, this year is supposed to be dominated by foldable devices from different companies. It looks like Lenovo is the latest manufaturer to join the race.

A new patent filed last year by Lenovo has been published by the WIPO. The patent shows designs of a foldable Lenovo device with a second screen. The unfolded screen will be similar to what we see in today’s smartphones but once folded, the user will get two screens. The hinges are not in the middle so we are guessing that the folded screen works for quick notifications and other information. Lenovo is not the only company who is considering this design.

We have already seen similar patents from other Chinese brands like ZTE and Oppo. However, the chance of Lenovo actually executing it is higher since the company has shown prototypes in the past.

We have mentioned in the past that patents do not always mean that the company will actually release a smartphone. However, seeing those design sketches, I do personally hope they do release a foldable smartphone.
