We posted this morning about a big update coming to the Microsoft Photos app, with most of the biggest features hidden.
To recap, the public feature update includes:
- Premium content only available to Office 365 users, including Themes, Music and Special Effects.
- Story Enhancements
- A switch to request access to A/B testing.
The hidden features include:
- A Favorites section: Previously available on Windows 10 Mobile, users will now be able to favourite photos with a heart icon or pressing the F key.
- Stickers and Texts for Microsoft Photo Stories: As part of the Story Special Effects Collection (also known as Creations). Users can choose to add your own cute creations, eyeglasses, magical hats, traditional hats, even stools, vintage cars, dinosaurs and texts that are completely customizable (colour, size, transparency, etc.).
- A Companion Application for Android and iOS: Coming soon, Microsoft’s Companion Application for Android and iOS. This will allow the user to quickly transfer photos, pictures and videos from his smartphone to the Photos for Windows 10 application (the screenshot above).
Now we also add support for Microsoft’s public 3D model repository, Remix 3D to the list.
Aggiornamentilumia.it has uncovered the new feature, which would allow users to download 3D models from the website and insert them in their photos and videos.
They report the feature is still quite rough and in development, but we can already see the skeleton of quite a sophisticated application for working with both 2D and 3D media.
The updated Photos app will be rolling out to Insiders shortly, but as mentioned earlier many of the features will be disabled on release, and only available to select Insiders on invitation.
