On June 8, 2025, Double Fine unveiled Keeper during the Xbox Games Showcase—its first game from creative lead Lee?Petty since Psychonauts 2 . You embody a lighthouse with legs, awakened on a mysterious island overtaken by dark tendrils. A seabird partner guides you, manipulating ancient devices as your radiant beam purifies corrupted flora and fauna .

Petty’s vision adopts a silent, nonverbal storytelling model. He wants players to absorb the environment through movement and visual cues instead of dialogue. The isolated island setting unfolds through puzzles, exploration, and ambient shifts. The trailer shows scenes charged with color, strangeness, and atmosphere, hinting at emotional depth beneath its quiet exterior.

Double Fine set Keeper’s launch for October 17, 2025, across Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), Xbox Cloud, Game Pass, and via Xbox Play Anywhere for cross?save compatibility . Game Pass holders can start play on day one.

The experience looks unlike anything in Double Fine’s catalog so far. While Petty’s past works such as Stacking, Headlander, and RAD each featured unique gameplay gimmicks, Keeper seems to lean into atmosphere and mood. You guide a mobile lighthouse through surreal landscapes while piecing together puzzles and restoring life—no spoken words, no text bubbles .

As the guardian of light, you fend off creeping darkness. The seabird companion unlocks pathways by activating mechanisms that the lighthouse cannot. Together, they traverse forested regions, crystal caves, and ruined architecture, cooperating to revive the island’s balance.

With its painterly visuals and quiet emotional resonance, Keeper could become a highlight of fall 2025. It launches October 17 across platforms and without extra cost for Game Pass members.
