Following tons of non-stop leaks, Nintendo has finally launched the Switch 2. Yes, it is called the Switch 2.
Building upon the success of the first Switch, the Japanese gaming giant reveals the first details in a hardware-focusing video. It’s almost similar to the original, but its black Joy-Con controllers have colored accents. And, there’s also a new button on the right Joy-Con and a redesigned U-shaped kickstand.
The console will be backward compatible with Switch games, as Nintendo first mentioned, and we’re soon getting more details during the Nintendo Direct event on April 2. It also looks a bit bigger than the original Switch.
Higher-ups at Nintendo were reportedly “very, very, very upset” about the non-stop leaks that the Switch 2 was facing up to this point.
Genki, a third-party accessory maker, previously showcased what was believed to be the Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025. The company said that it was based on previous leaks and reported patents, but a cheeky visit from Nintendo’s lawyers made them leave the hardware fest sooner than expected.
Then, there were also leaks about Switch 2’s pricing. French retailer Micromania will reportedly sell the console for €399, about a hundred bucks shy of a PlayStation 5, with games priced €69-€79.
