Nintendo Switch 2

Following tons of non-stop leaks, Nintendo has finally launched the Switch 2. Yes, it is called the Switch 2.

Building upon the success of the first Switch, the Japanese gaming giant reveals the first details in a hardware-focusing video. It’s almost similar to the original, but its black Joy-Con controllers have colored accents. And, there’s also a new button on the right Joy-Con and a redesigned U-shaped kickstand.

The console will be backward compatible with Switch games, as Nintendo first mentioned, and we’re soon getting more details during the Nintendo Direct event on April 2. It also looks a bit bigger than the original Switch.

Higher-ups at Nintendo were reportedly “very, very, very upset” about the non-stop leaks that the Switch 2 was facing up to this point.

Kit Ellis, a former Nintendo PR manager, said in a podcast episode that the leak “could impact how this huge product reveal is received.”

“And I think they have been so bad that Nintendo has just reached this point where they have to re-evaluate everything regarding how they handle information security & product security,” he said further.

Genki, a third-party accessory maker, previously showcased what was believed to be the Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025. The company said that it was based on previous leaks and reported patents, but a cheeky visit from Nintendo’s lawyers made them leave the hardware fest sooner than expected.

But, how much is the Nintendo Switch 2 going to cost? Well, there were also leaks about Switch 2’s pricing. French retailer Micromania will reportedly sell the console for €399, about a hundred bucks shy of a PlayStation 5, with games priced €69-€79.

But, let’s talk about Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games. Again, Nintendo confirmed last week that the console will support backward compatibility. And if you’re looking at the trailer, Nintendo is clearly teasing us with a new Mario Kart title.

Switch 2 will be released in 2025, that’s what Nintendo said without clear mentions of the dates. But, since Switch 2’s demo is only being launched during April’s Direct event, there’s a slim chance of the actual console being dropped before that.

Other than this hardware-focused Switch 2 trailer, there aren’t a lot of official details or specs information that was announced. But, if we’re talking about leaks, the Switch 2 is rumored to feature an Nvidia Ampere-based SoC with DLSS upscaling technology that gives you sharper 4K visuals when docked.
