Developer mode on Windows 11

A new change in Microsoft’s latest beta update makes it easier for you to enable & disable developer mode on Windows 11.

In Windows build 27783 for Canary channel insiders, which has been shipped recently, there’s a hidden Settings change that improves the developer mode experience with administrator protection.

Now, as spotted by eagle-eyed insider @phantomofearth on X, enabling developer mode now skips the usual confirmation dialog. This update only shows the warning in the toggle’s description instead and reduces the process to one prompt instead of two.

Similarly, disabling developer mode no longer triggers two consent prompts when admin protection is enabled. The addition is currently being hidden, meaning that Microsoft is testing it for a small subset of Canary insiders, although you can still activate it with registry tweaks via ViVeTool.

Windows 11’s developer mode allows you to run and test apps that are not available in the Microsoft Store. It gives developers access to advanced features like installing unsigned apps, debugging tools, and the ability to develop and deploy apps directly to your device.

Still from the Build 27783-related update, Microsoft is also adding the feature to view shared files in File Explorer for Microsoft and commercial account users. The update also makes the Magnifier app better with new shortcuts and buttons for adjusting zoom, similar to the KB5050092 update for Windows 11 24H2.

With this, Microsoft is also fixing a lot of errors, such as issues with the taskbar, window freezing, and Remote Desktop errors. There are still issues to be known, though, like problems with File Explorer rendering, Hyper-V functionality, and a long-standing bug affecting Windows Hello PIN setup on Copilot+ PCs.
