Intel has launched its new 14th Gen Core desktop processor family, led by the i9-14900K, the world’s fastest desktop processor with speeds of up to 6 GHz right out of the box — just as the AI-powered Meteor Lake hitting the market this December.

Coming to retail outlets and via OEM starting tomorrow, October 17, the new processor family also includes six other unlocked desktop processors with up to 24 cores and 32 threads.

“We’re showing once again why enthusiasts turn to Intel for the best desktop experience available on the market today,” says Intel’s VP, Roger Chandler.

The 14th Gen Core desktop processors are powered by Intel’s advanced performance hybrid architecture, which combines high-performance Performance cores (P-cores) and efficient Efficient cores (E-cores) to deliver the right balance of performance and power.

To call it the “fastest desktop processor at volume” is an understandement. Boasting support for DDR5 memory at speeds of up to 8,000 MT/S, these processors are also compatible with Intel 600 and 700 series chipset-based motherboards.

“With next-level I/O integration, this platform has up to 16 PCIe 5.0 lanes9 for a high-speed GPU, SSD or other add-in cards. It also offers up to 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes and up to 8 DMI 4.0 lanes for fast communication for components,” the announcement reads.
