Instagram only accepts square photos, forcing users to crop their photos, which are invariable taken in portrait or landscape aspect ratio.
An alternative however to cropping and losing data is adding “black bars” to your photos and making a rectangular photos square.
The leading app to achieve this effect is InstaSize, which has 15 million users on iOS and Android, and which has now arrived on Windows Phone.
Besides doing that basic job, Instasize will also let you use filters, add overlays, stickers and text, add backgrounds, and upload directly to Instagram, twitter and other social networks.
