Key notes

  • Instagram testing file sharing within DMs for a more collaborative experience.
  • Unclear if exclusive to business accounts or available to all users.
  • Leak hints at additional features like “Add Yours” and “Saved Replies” with unknown purposes.

Instagram is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to send files through DMs. The feature, which currently seems to be in development, may be limited to business accounts and is expected to provide a convenient way for businesses to share documents, presentations, and other files with their customers or clients on the platform.

It was seen on X.

According to the screenshot, the new feature will be accessible through a “+” button on the DM chat bar, which will provide options to add files, stickers, saved replies, and more. While the exact details of the file-sharing feature are not yet known, it is likely that Instagram will impose some restrictions on the types and sizes of files that can be shared, but everything is yet to be seen.

Not just this, but other new functionalities visible on the shared SS are ‘saved replies’ and ‘add yours.’ It is obvious from ‘saved replies’ that it might let users save important messages in the chat for faster revelation, but I am unable to figure out what ‘add yours’ means.

By enabling file sharing through DMs, Instagram aims to facilitate better communication and collaboration between businesses and their customers, making it easier for them to exchange important documents and information without having to switch to other messaging platforms.

If successful, the feature could be a valuable addition to the platform, particularly for businesses and professionals who rely on Instagram for communication and collaboration. Hopefully, it’ll be available to general users as well.
