Last month, we reported that Microsoft is courting local smartphone OEMs in India to drive Windows Phone volume growth. Xolo and Micromax will launch their Windows Phone devices later this year. In an interview with IBNLive.com, Prashanth D Gadiyar, VP of products planning and development at Lava revealed that Lava Mobiles is working on a Windows Phone device for budget minded people which I think will compete with Nokia Lumia 525 for even lower price point.

“We are identifying the right mix as in what should be the display size, camera specs and chipset. The Windows experience itself is still in the stabilisation stage. We are working on something and we will have these announcements when we have a little more inputs. Our internal intent is to bring the Windows Phone smartphone in 2014 if this is going to be really feasible and viable,”

Lava Mobiles sells smartphones under the brand Lava and also own a smartphone brand called Xolo. It is unclear whether Lava Nobiles will use Xolo or Lava brand for the upcoming Windows Phone devices.
