The rumor of Huawei’s Android replacement OS came days after Huawei was barred from using technologies from the US-based companies including Google and Qualcomm.

Huawei’s Android alternative, the screenshot of which got leaked a few days back, is now being tested in China. Named Ark OS(Hongmeng OS in China), this will power Huawei’s smartphone going forward.

Admitting that the company wants to remain in the Android family and that the alternative OS is not what the company wants, the vice president of Huawei, Andrew Williamson said that the company is currently in the process of launching the Ark OS.

Huawei is in the process of potentially launching a replacement. It’s not something Huawei wants. We’re very happy of being part of the Android family, but Hongmeng is being tested, mostly in China.

The vice president also revealed that Huawei is filing for trademarks around the world in order to protect the name and use of its operating system(via Pocketnow).
