brewMasterDigitimes reports that HTC’s dumb phone for Verizon and Sprint will be delayed till next year.

The phones will be based on the Qualcomm Brew Mobile Platform and it is this software stack which is apparently the source of the delay,  due to the lack of software for the platform.

The platform apparently lacks niceties and necessities such as a Java virtual machine, customized wed browser, mobile community services, multimedia management and GPS services, among others, with Qualcomm scrambling to provide these, with the aid of outside mobile software development houses.

The attraction of the devices will however not be as smartphones, with the emphasis on as yet unannounced features.
