Halo: The Master Chief Collection will soon give players access to over 6.6 million user-made maps thanks to a new preservation initiative.
Spanning four games – Halo 3, ODST, Halo: Reach and Halo 4 – developer 343 Industries is working hard to bring a host of classic fan content to bring to the awesome collection.
Working alongside the fans, 343 Industries did a one-time copy of every user-made map and Game Mode that was uploaded to each individual game’s File Share.
“This is a ONE-TIME service for bringing game types and maps from your profile’s original Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 Xbox 360 file share to the MCC file share on Xbox One and PC,” 343 announced. “If you have maps and game type files not on your profile’s file share, they will not be migrated. Only content on your file shares in the original releases for Halo 3, Halo 4, and Halo: Reach from the Xbox 360, will be brought to MCC. These game types and maps will work on both the Xbox One and PC versions of MCC.”
Over 6.6 million user-generated maps in Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 have been successfully copied for future access in MCC! Learn more about our plan to bring these community creations forward: https://t.co/JBUrifp2mz pic.twitter.com/tPXdFVy8mp

Unfortunately, classic screenshots and videos that were captured inside the old Halo games have not been copied. However, the developer is working on another solution that will allow players to bring that content into Halo Waypoint.
343’s awesome work on preserving the hard work of many fans is an admirable initiative. For now, this user-made content that kept Halo alive will live even longer.
