In a recent move, Google announced that its Gemini AI assistant will replace Google Assistant in Android Auto, rolling out to over 250 million compatible vehicles in the coming months.
Gemini introduces natural voice interactions, allowing drivers to send messages, find nearby stops, and manage emails without specific commands or physical input. It can remember user preferences, translate messages into over 40 languages, and provide conversational support during drives through its “Gemini Live” feature.

This integration aims to enhance the driving experience by reducing distractions and offering more intuitive assistance. Gemini will first appear in Android Auto, followed by vehicles with Google built-in systems later this year.
The shift from Google Assistant to Gemini reflects Google’s broader strategy to unify its AI capabilities across devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, and TVs.While some users express enthusiasm for the new features, others have raised concerns about AI integration in vehicles. Google plans to showcase Gemini’s capabilities at the upcoming I/O developer conference.
