Google is launching a $75 million AI Futures Fund aimed at supporting public interest technology and expanding research into AI’s societal impact. Managed by Google.org, the fund will distribute grants to global organizations that work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and public benefit. The initiative is intended to help shape how AI is applied in different sectors. These include education, climate, health, and other core areas that affect communities worldwide.

The first $10 million in grants will go to leading organizations for AI accountability and community-centered design. These include Data & Society, the Alan Turing Institute, and the Aspen Institute to name a few.

Furthermore, these groups will focus on establishing governance frameworks and enhancing public participation in AI development. In turn, this will help develop tools that will focus on social responsibility over commercial interests.

Google aims to engage more voices in the development with its AI Futures Fund. The goal is to move beyond corporate labs and involve academics, nonprofits, and civic organizations in decisions that will shape how AI is used.

In other initiatives, Google has released a new update for Gemini, integrating it completely into Google Drive. You can read more about it here.
