Google says its working to fix free iPhone backup "bug"

Last week it was noted that while Google accidentally offered a free unlimited original quality backup to iPhone users, the firm didn’t offer the same courtesy to users who opted to use its own Pixel series of handsets. While this was attributed to Apple’s use of the HEIC format iPhone users probably thought Google didn’t notice or care. Well, with the number of stories on that little feature, Mountain View has taken some notice.

Google gave no further statement other than “We are aware of this bug and are working to fix it.” One hopes Google would simply implement HEIC as a storage option for Android devices and engender a lot of goodwill rather than simply stripping the free storage loophole from iPhones wholesale.
