[Updated with more details] Google Home and Google Home Mini will soon make its way to India

Update: The latest tweet from Google India confirms that the speaker will be making its way to India soon. However, there is no information on the launch dates and the expected price of Google Home.

Google announced their own range of smart-speakers last year and the speakers were immediately made available in the US. Now it looks like the company is finally gearing up to launch them in India.

This news was a part of the latest communications received by Redington India with its retail partners. The news makes even more sense since Google announced the support for the Hindi language in Google Assistant just a few months back. If this wasn’t enough, Google recently pushed out a Bluetooth speaker pairing update that has opened up some local Indian skills like the support for Gaana and Saavn.

The launch of Google Home will be the first major competition for Amazon Echo which debuted in the country last fall. However, Amazon does have an advantage over Google with the support for local skills like ordering food and booking cabs but Alexa doesn’t understand Hindi. In any case, Google will be looking to fill the service gap as soon as possible.

Another big aspect for Google will be the pricing. Amazon is currently selling Echo devices starting from 4,000 INR and going as high as 15,000 INR. We have seen companies adding markup prices debuting the Indian market but we do hope Google plays the price card right if they want to beat Amazon. Google Home and Home Mini could debut by the end of this month and Google is also planning to launch the Wi-Fi mesh routers soon in India but again pricing of the routers will be a critical point.
