Google Gemini app with Indian languages is here, and it may be better than Copilot for this reason

Google launched the Google Gemini app for mobile a little while ago with plans to integrate Gemini offline to Android phones in 2025. But now, the Mountain View tech giant has expanded its AI tool to India, a country with a “strong mobile-first culture,” with native support for Indian languages.

In its announcement, the company said that the Google Gemini app will be available in nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

That’s more than the current offering that Copilot has, for comparison, as Microsoft’s AI tool only offers native support for Hindi and Marathi, as well as Bengali languages. ChatGPT from OpenAI also offers support for plenty of Indian languages at the time of this publication.

Gemini Advanced, Google’s current premium offering with the latest Gemini 1.5 Pro model, also gets this native support. That means, it now supports document uploads (up to 1,500 pages), email summarization, and complex data analysis with interactive charts and graphs, all natively in these languages.

Google arrived with plenty of massive announcements at the Google I/O 2024 event this year. Gemini is coming to Google Photos, and it can understand the contexts of your gallery so you can ask the chatbot to ask about whatever it is in your gallery.

The announcement, oddly enough, coincides with OpenAI’s plan to launch the ChatGPT mobile app, which will first come out for iOS and then for Windows.
