In February 2018 Google put its Clip AI-powered surveillance camera on sale, and today the company confirmed that it is removing the $250 spy camera from its store.

The camera was announced back in October 2017 during Google I/O and was designed to constantly take pictures and capture videos when its AI notices something is happening so you don’t need to have a camera or a phone with you at all times. Instead, you could just enjoy the moment and let Google Clip capture everything automatically and process it. Google also used the machine learning so it can identify and arrange photos and videos of individuals.

The device was however reportedly inconsistent and unreliable, and Google never released a follow-up.

Now Google has confirmed the device has been discontinued.  Support will continue until December 2021, and existing devices will receive no further updates after this.
