Good news: Samsung Galaxy S6 to take Qi Wireless Charging mainstream

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is widely expected to include wireless charging, with Samsung’s principal engineer Seho Park saying Samsung’s next generation of smartphones will aim to usher wireless charging into mainstream use, calling 2015 a “landmark year” for the technology.
At the time many wondered if Samsung will fragment the wireless charging world even more by introducing its own proprietary technology, but now a new Samsung wireless charging puck which has just passed through the FCC, and the good news is that it appears to sport the widely deployed Qi wireless charging standard, used in nearly all Windows Phones with the capability.
With Qi under attack by a variety of sources such as AT&T and Powermat, it can only be good news for Windows Phone owners that tens of millions of more devices will soon roll out sporting the same technology, which will likely mean more accessories and more public installations, and further protect our investment in phones and accessories by embedding Qi as the de facto wireless charging standard.
