Microsoft’s newest first-party title Gears 5 has been crowned an Xbox Game Pass mega hit.
Games Industry analyst Daniel ‘ZhugeEX’ Ahmad took to Twitter to reveal the title’s success through Microsoft’s video game subscription service.
“Gears 5 is the first mega hit on Gamepass,” Ahmad states. “Competitive pricing and recent offers, a large library of games and access to MS 1st party has led to a high number of sign ups. MS will be hoping a lot of users stick to the service going forward.”
Microsoft’s aggressive push for both Xbox One and PC users to adopt the subscription service has worked in their favour. By dropping the price down to just a single dollar during huge releases, Microsoft is easily snapping up new consumers.
It’s exactly as Ahmad says, “Not everyone is going to pay $60 for a AAA game that also requires a $400 console purchase. Low-cost subscriptions on both console and PC + future XCloud services allow MS to reach more players.”
Gears 5’s launch on Game Pass has certainly worked out. The title is currently the top title on Xbox One’s Most Played list, knocking the free-to-play Fortnite from the #1 spot. Twitter user Klobrille noted that the this is true for the game’s Ultimate Edition is the US, UK, Germany and Mexico.
Gears 5 debuts as the #1 most played game on the Xbox Store (only checked US, Mexico, UK, Germany), even beating Fortnite. What is even more impressive is that this is the Ultimate Edition of Gears 5. Game Pass doing work. https://t.co/vqnWKEE5rf pic.twitter.com/Ljd7iY0LNe

It also helps that Gears 5 is a bloody fantastic game. In our review we praised the title for being a fantastic evolution of the semi-stale series. Gears 5’s Game Pass deal is a fantastic one; we suggest you check it out.
