Project Scorpio is coming out towards the end of this year but that doesn’t mean details about it aren’t being shared behind-the-scenes. During retailer GameStop’s latest earnings call, COO Tony Bartel stated that he couldn’t share much about Microsoft’s upcoming device, but he was impressed with what he knew. Bartel clarified:

“We’re impressed with Microsoft’s Scorpio…a gamer friendly powerful console…Unfortunately we can’t talk about a lot other than what’s known….It’s a very powerful system that’s really made for 4K. We see it as a very gaming centric, very, very powerful unit and so we do believe that there will be some great games that are made for this.”

Aside from the specifications, GameStop believes the console will do really well in terms of sales which will also further the gaming industry and game purchases. Microsoft has been touting Project Scorpio’s 4K capabilities for months and has received some criticism from outlets who believe the internal components can’t deliver on that promise. It’s great to see a retailer with thorough knowledge of the upcoming console confirm that it’s “made for 4K”.

Project Scorpio has a lot of to live up to in a market where Sony dominates console sales and Nintendo just launched their new handheld device. It needs to make a name for itself by standing apart from the rest. Hopefully Microsoft will market the console well and show consumers why it’s a worthy upgrade over the PlayStation 4 Pro, its direct competitor.
