Former Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher has joined Microsoft Studios’ executive leadership team. This announcement was confirmed on Twitter by Matt Booty, who was promoted to Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Studios in January.

Xbox head Phil Spencer also welcomed Gallagher on Twitter by saying he has always admired his work and is excited to have him join the team at Microsoft. Both Booty and Gallagher teased that fans can expect to hear more at this year’s E3, where there will be “good things to come.”

Gallagher became head of Crystal Dynamics in 2009 and stayed with the company until his departure in 2015. While there he led the studio through the development of the Tomb Raider franchise reboot. Gallagher also worked as Square Enix’s Head of Product Development and Western Studios.

It’s unclear what his role on the executive leadership team at Microsoft Studios will consist of.

Spencer has previously stated that the company plans to bulk up its first-party portfolio and invest more in gaming. This looks to be a good sign of things to come. We’ll just have to wait a couple more months to see what Xbox has in store for us in the near future.
