Foobar2000 is a freeware audio player for Windows, well known for its highly modular design, breadth of features, and extensive user flexibility in configuration, including a very customizable user interface.

Foobar2000 supports a large number of audio file formats, has many features for organising metadata, files, and folders, and has a converter interface for use with command line encoders. To maximize audio fidelity in cases where resampling or downscaling in bit depth is required, it provides noise shaping and dithering.

The classic music player has been in development since 2002 and since a few days ago is now available in the Windows Store.

The app features:

  • Supported audio formats include: MP3, MP4/M4A, CD Audio, WMA, Vorbis, Opus, FLAC, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, Musepack.
  • Gapless playback.
  • Advanced tagging capabilities.
  • ReplayGain support.
  • Customizable keyboard shortcuts.

Unfortunately, support for loading of add-on components is currently disabled in the Microsoft Store version of foobar2000. The developer, however, plans to address this in a future update.

The app can be downloaded, for free of course, from the Microsoft Store here.
