Key notes

  • Rebel Wolves’ upcoming RPG Dawnwalker: Origin is a dark fantasy game by CD Projekt Red vets.
  • Dawnwalker, on Unreal Engine 5, is a single-player, no-microtransaction game for PC and next-gen consoles.
  • Rebel Wolves preps  for the game’s release with rich quests in a more compact universe than The Witcher.

It’s now official. While unconfirmed rumors have been swirling around about Rebel Wolves, a new studio spearheaded by CD Projekt Red veterans, producing a game called Dawnwalker: Origin, the team has recently made a welcome announcement.

Yes, it is now official. The studio broke the news via X (fka Twitter), sharing confirmation words and a cryptic all-red teaser image that suggests a captivating “dark fantasy universe.”

Previously, an investigative report done last month by video game enthusiast @Kurakasis suggested that the new game will be the first installment of the series. Built on Unreal Engine 5, at least 100 people are working on the game.

Dawnwalker, with a 2025 projected release date, will be a “story-driven” RPG built in a “brand-new dark fantasy universe.” It’s an offline single-player game, and no plans of microtransaction that’s usually found in online games.

Is it coming to Xbox, though? The report further that Dawnwalker will arrive on “PC and next gen consoles,” so Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 will definitely be in. No official words on the release date yet, but the co-founder once said that the then-unnamed project would arrive in 2025.

“The scope of this game will not be as gigantic as The Witcher, but the amount of quests will be I think greater than it was in The Witcher,” the studio’s game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz teased in a 2022 interview.

The report also says that the studio has filed for patents and website domains to promote the game, with dates going back as early as 2021.
