Media Molecule, the developers behind PlayStation 4’s create-your-own-game, uh, game Dreams wants the game’s many projects to come to other platforms.

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, developer Media Molecule revealed plans to bring creations made within the title to come to other platforms.

With the PlayStation 4 exclusive being a bonafide game engine complete with modelling, texturing, coding and more, Media Molecule has realised the software’s potential to bring games to platforms other than PlayStation.

Speaking to studio co-founder Kareem Ettouney after a talk on the power of Dreams’ game creation toolset, they confirmed that they want users to be able self-publish their creations outside of PS4.

“We want people to be able to go to the moon with their projects,” Ettouney told the outlet. “We[are working on] a commercial license, which means when you get Dreams you can apply to get the commercial license… And then everything you make in Dreams is yours to use commercially outside of Dreams.”

While the title currently only supports some simplistic video exporting features for those who make animated shorts within the game, the developer is currently working on providing more options for exporting full games.

“The very limited exporting features the moment are like exporting a video, but we have in the long-term [plans for] exporting to other devices and beyond,” Ettouney continues.

“Step one is to show our intent — so that from the very beginning we are doing this commercial concept, which means that everything you do in Dreams is yours. You can use it. People in the Dreams community have already been using it to make graphic design, album covers and stuff like that. Using it for their portfolios and showreels.”

While the title will be strictly limited to PlayStation consoles for creative purposes, being able to export games to other platforms would allow for some amazing possibilities.
