With Kinect effectively dead—both it and its adapter were discontinued—it may be a bit more difficult for people to utilize Cortana on Xbox One. According to Microsoft, you either need to use the Kinect or a headset microphone for voice commands. Neither of those are ideal for a lot of people, but there is a another choice.
If you’re using one of the newer Xbox One controllers with a 3.5mm jack built-in, you can pick up a cheap mini-microphone designed for smartphones on Amazon. Your controller will detect this as a headset, without the need for the bulky accessory.
You can grab one of these microphones for anywhere between $5 to $15. Some are a bit more expensive, but you won’t need to break the bank to find one that suits your needs.
