Halo

It looks like we may get a Halo movie, or at least another cinematic project directed by Neill Blomkamp in the future. In a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, Blomkamp expressed his love for Halo and his desire to work on the franchise. A user named Strykrol asked, “Any news or possibilities of (returning?) to the Halo franchise in any capacity? I believe most everyone thinks you’re the guy for the job.” To this Blomkamp replied:

“I love HALO. still. But i seem to have a bad track record of turning existing franchises into films. haha, Do i love the world? master chief? reach, the colonies, the flood, the covenant? YES. Am i going to end up directing a piece in that world? probably not- meaning no one is asking me….Although, I must say if Microsoft asked me to do another batch of pieces like LANDFALL now, i would say yes. Inside OATS that could be very cool actually.”

Another user later tagged Larry Hryb, better known as Major Nelson to the Xbox community, in the conversation. In response to this statement, Hryb said he hears Blomkamp desire to work on the Halo franchise “Loud and clear!” Blomkamp is responsible for some of the best films and it would be a treat for Halo fans if he was involved. Chappie and District 9 are two of my favorite movies and Blomkamp’s ability to incorporate so much emotion into the science fiction genre is spellbinding. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between Blomkamp and Microsoft. Only time will tell if it goes anywhere but we can all hope.
