At CES 2017 last year, Dell announced the first convertible in the XPS lineup, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 had a 360-degree hinge that allowed users to use it in four different modes: the Laptop Mode, Tablet Mode, Stand Mode, and Tent Mode. At CES this year, Dell is announcing larger version of this convertible. The new Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is powered by the new Intel Core processor with Radeon graphics combo.

This new device is just 16mm thick, thanks to the new CPU/GPU combo and all new keyboard mechanism. It comes with a maglev (magnetic levitation) keyboard that makes use of opposing magnets instead of switches to push keys back up. Even though it won’t offer the same typing experience as a regular keyboard found on the Dell XPS laptops, it will offer highly comparable experience.

Just like in the new Dell XPS 13 that was revealed few days back, the XPS 15 2-in-1 is built with GORE Thermal Insulation, the same silica aerogels that have been used in high-tech science and extreme engineering environments to diffuse and dissipate heat, such as insulation on the Mars Rovers and Hyper Velocity Particle capture in the Stardust Probe.

The display comes with 4K UHD resolution, 100% sRGB color and a 1500:1 contrast ratio. And the Dell Cinema technologies included in this device elevates the audio-visual experience.

  • CinemaColor: Visuals appear every bit as vibrant as the world around you. Engineered with best-in-class panel technology, combined with advanced hardware and software to power content with a superior dynamic range – delivering the deepest blacks, the most dazzling brights and more vivid detail across the entire color spectrum.
  • CinemaStream: Killer Wireless channels maximum bandwidth to your videos or music for a seamless, stutter-free experience.
  • CinemaSound: Waves MaxxAudio Pro boosts volume and clarifies every tone, so you experience studio-quality sound.

Dell has also added support for inking on this device. The new Dell Active Pen will support 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt detection for smoother and accurate inking experience.

The new Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 will be available this Spring starting at $1,299.
