coveyes A while back I had what to me was a strange e-mail exchange with a reader.  He was looking for porn filtering software for his Windows Mobile phone, so as to help his resist temptation.

Always eager to help our readers (you can e-mail me at editor AT mspoweruser.com) I had a good google around, and while there were proxy-based internet filtering sites for the desktop, none of them were suitable for mobile use.

It was this encounter which made me feel that there may be some (small) interest in Covenant Eye for Windows Mobile which was released yesterday. Unlike filtering software, Covenant Eye does not block any websites.  Instead it merely runs in the background and keeps track of all the websites you visit, and emails a digest to an assigned “Accountability Partner”, making your actions on the internet less anonymous.

Proxy-based browsers like Opera Mini and Skyfire are blocked as their traffic can not be recorded.

While I have no personal interest in such software, it does sound like an interesting approach to manage addiction to internet pornography, and certainly less restrictive than a filter which will likely block as many legitimate sites as problem ones.

The mobile software is free to Covenant Eye for desktop, which runs at $7.99 per month for one user.
