The Cosmo Communicator is a follow up to the Gemini PDA, a smart mobile device with a full keyboard designed for productivity on the move.

After a successful $2.5 million cloud funding program for that device the company, Planet Computers, is back with their next generation, which aims to improve on that device with numerous new features.

The 4G device now features a back-lit keyboard, 24-megapixel camera and a secondary screen, allowing you to take phone calls and view notifications without opening the device.

Its features include;

  • Full backlit physical keyboard
  • Primary 6” colour touchscreen
  • Secondary 2” external colour touchscreen
  • Android 9 (Pie) OS
  • 24MP external camera
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • NFC capability
  • Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity

The device is powered by an 8-Core Mediatek P70 processor, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory (extendable via a microSD card), and has a uniquely designed chassis that now includes two support feet for the hinge when the device is open.

The Cosmo also features a large battery for up to two days of use, dedicated voice assist controls, 6-inch internal colour screen, dual 4G SIM capability (physical and eSIM), stereo speakers, two USB-C ports for charging and connecting peripherals, and an advanced ARM Mali G72 graphics processor.

Dr Janko Mrsic-Flogel, CEO of Planet Computers, comments: “The success of the Gemini PDA in 2017 showed us the demand for a personal digital assistant remains strong. However, today’s communication needs are changing as people’s lives become more digital and complex.

“In the process of developing a new device to extend our handset range, we asked our users what features they wanted to have and we listened; the result is Cosmo – a dual-screen smartphone with a powerful camera and all the benefits of a clamshell pocketable computer. Cosmo extends our range of handsets, which continues to include the Gemini PDA. We will develop and improve the software suite across all of our devices – including updates to Sailfish 3 and Android 8 (Oreo) for the Gemini.”

The device has already passed its crown-funding goals and aims to deliver in mid-2019, but you can still support the venture and grab a Cosmo for $250 off by pledging $549. Crowd-funding are of course not stores, and any company, even one with previous successful projects, may fail to deliver.
